San Jacinto, CA; On September 22, 2015, at approximately 7:54 am, deputies from the San Jacinto sheriff's station along with social workers from the Riverside County Child Protective Services responded to a report of suspected child abuse in the 1600 block of Santa Fe Avenue.

During the course of their investigation, the deputies and social workers discovered two minor children were being deliberately confined to a single room under deplorable conditions. Responding deputies discovered the children, whose ages have not yet been released, did not have any access to a restroom facility and none of their basic needs were being cared for in any way. The deputies investigation and subsequent interviews with the two suspects determined the children had been deliberately kept in the room off and on over the course of a year.

In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Sgt. Craig McDonald stated the children's parents, identified as Emily Tardy, age 29, and Steven Crane, age 38, both of San Jacinto, were arrested for felony child abuse. The couple was subsequently booked into the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility. The couple's bail was set at $35,000.00 each. Riverside County Child Protective Services has taken custody of both siblings, who have been placed into protective custody.
