On September 21, 2015, at approximately 8:20 p.m. deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Wildomar station responded to a report of a vehicle that had collided with a tree on Baxter Road, west of Interstate 15, in the city of Wildomar.

Upon arrival, officers located a 2008 Toyota Prius with major front end damage blocking the westbound lanes of Baxter Road. Deputies were forced to close Baxter Road between Central Avenue and Interstate 15 for approximately one hour while they investigated the collision.

The unidentified driver of the Toyota, a female resident of Lake Elsinore, was found to have sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision, but she was able to exit the vehicle on her own prior to the arrival of deputies. The driver was later transported to a local hospital for treatment of her injuries, which were described as non-life-threatening.

Witnesses at the scene reported the Toyota had been travelling westbound on Baxter Road, when it drifted off the roadway and subsequently smashed into the tree.

In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Sgt. Dan Ponder wrote It was suspected the female driver was possibly under the influence of an unknown intoxicant at the time of the collision and toxicology reports would be used to determine the driver's level of intoxication.

Baxter Road was re-opened at approximately 9:30 p.m., and only caused minor delays.

Anyone with additional information is urged to call Riverside County Sheriff's dispatch at (951) 776-1099, or the Wildomar Police Department at (951) 245-3300.
