Palm Desert, CA; On Friday, September 18, Sgt. Chris Willison wrote in a press release for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, that at approximately 10:52 p.m., deputies assigned to the Palm Desert Sheriff's Station responded to the report of a home invasion robbery located in the 15800 block of Avenida Manzana in the unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs.

The responding deputies investigation revealed a Hispanic male adult, identified as Austin Martinez, 18 years old of Desert Hot Springs, walked uninvited into a residence at the location and confronted the occupants inside the home. Martinez brandished a folding pocket knife and demanded money and merchandise from the residents. A violent physical altercation ensued between the occupants of the residence and the suspect, which spilled out of the residence and into the front yard as other family members frantically called 911 to report the incident. The fight between the family members and the suspect continued until responding deputies arrived at which time Martinez was taken into custody without further incident.

One of the occupants of the residence, a 20-year-old Hispanic male adult of Desert Hot Springs, sustained non-life-threatening injuries as a result of struggling with the suspect and he was taken to a local area hospital for further medical treatment. Martinez was also taken to a local area hospital for medical clearance due to the injuries he received while fighting with the occupants of the residence. Martinez' booking photos clearly indicated a violent struggle had taken place at the residence.

Martinez was later booked into the Indio County Jail for numerous charges related to this incident.
