On Saturday September 26th, 2015, a double homicide described by Banning interim city manager Dean Martin as "random," rocked the small mountain pass community of Banning, shattering the otherwise calm of the morning and leaving nerves frayed and people fearful whether or not the suspect was still at large.
According to unnamed official sources from the Banning Police Department, the double homicide occurred at or near the ARCO gas station located at 780 E Ramsey Street in the city of Banning. Shortly after the fatal shooting incident, the unidentified suspect fled the location.
Unconfirmed reports on scene indicated a suspect had been taken into custody by the Beaumont Police Department, not far from the scene of the fatal shooting incident, however as of the time of this report, it could not be confirmed whether or not that suspect was actually related to this incident.
In response to the shooting, Banning Police as well as officers and deputies from surrounding areas staged at two separate crime scene areas near the Banning High School, not far from the location of the shooting incident. One crime scene was located at or near the intersection of South San Gorgonio Avenue and East Lincoln Street and the other crime scene was located near the intersection of Hargrave and John Streets.
A silver truck could be seen facing southbound in the middle of the street at the crime scene located at San Gorgonio Avenue and Lincoln Street. Officers on scene stated the body of a deceased victim was inside the truck, however he would not provide any further details regarding that crime scene or the other crime scene location.
Deputy Michael Vasquez, Press Information Officer for the Riverside County Sheriff's Department stated when asked about the double homicide shooting incident that deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department were assisting Banning Police Department in their investigation, which was described as an active and ongoing investigation.
Anyone who witnessed this incident or has any information related to this crime are encouraged to immediately contact the Banning Police Department at (951) 849-1511
