Child molested at Jurupa Valley business by registered sex offender

On Saturday, September 26, 2015, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department assigned to the city of Jurupa Valley responded to a retail store located in the 7800 block of Limonite Avenue in the city of Jurupa Valley regarding the report of a a child annoyance call in progress at the location. 


Deputies rushed to the location, arriving within moments and ensured the safety of the victim. The victim has only been identified as a child under under the age of 10 years old. Upon arrival, deputies confirmed a crime had been committed and they immediately began the process of identifying and locating the suspect. Investigators were immediately called in and assumed the investigation.

With evidence collected on scene, investigators determined the suspect had been following the victim inside the store before inappropriately touching the victim multiple times. The Investigation revealed the suspect, who was quickly identified as 
Orion Charles Hitches, a 32 year old resident of Jurupa Valley and registered sex offender, had been following the victim through the store and waited until the victim's parent turned away when he took the opportunity to inappropriately fondle the victim. After he had committed the assault, Hitches fled the location.

Due to the nature of the crime, the investigators immediately employed every resource available to apprehend this suspect. Hitches, who was already on parole and knew he was being sought in connection with the crime, attempted to elude capture by disabling his state parole issued GPS monitoring ankle bracelet. 

Despite his efforts, Hitches was located by investigators a short time later in the 6500 block of Archer Street in the city of Jurupa Valley. The suspect was subsequently arrested and booked into jail at the Robert Presley Detention Center.

Hitches was booked for three counts of charges related to child molestation
. Due to the heinous nature of the crime, Hitches bail was set at $1,000,000.00. Investigators also violated Hitches' parole status and have additionally violated his terms as a registered sex offender.

In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Sgt. Vanessa Sloniker
reminded citizens that parents should always keep their young children in sight while visiting any public area where strangers are present.
