Fatal traffic collision shuts down major roadway in Temecula for six hours.

On Friday, September 25, 2015, at 9:48 am, officers from the Temecula Police Department responded to report of a single vehicle traffic collision that had occurred on Vail Ranch Parkway, south of Johnston Drive. 911 callers had reported a gray Mazda sedan had been involved in a single vehicle traffic collision after hitting a tree located in the center median at the above location. Officers and medical personnel arrived on scene and found three people still inside the vehicle. 

The driver of the vehicle, an unidentified adult female was found to be not breathing and she was subsequently pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver's identity is being withheld pending notification of family members. There were two passengers inside the vehicle, an adult male and an adult female, and both passengers sustained major injuries and were transported to a local hospital for treatment. 

In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Sgt. Chad Loeffler wrote, "The preliminary investigation at the scene revealed the driver of the Mazda struck the curb, lost control of the vehicle, and collided head-on with a large tree in the center median. All lanes of Vail Ranch Parkway between Johnston Drive and Nighthawk Pass were closed for approximately six hours while officers conducted an investigation to determine the cause of the collision."
