Kidnapping suspect arrested on weapons and assault charges in Coachella

Coachella, Calif.; On October 01, 2015, at approximately 5:30 a.m., members of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force served a search warrant in the 49-100 block of Summer Street in Coachella. The search warrant followed an incident involving an assault with a deadly weapon investigation that occurred on September 18, 2015, in the city of Coachella.

During the service of the search warrant, a handgun was recovered at the residence and the suspect, identified as 30-year-old Marcos Cano, a resident of Indio was taken into custody.

In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Sergeant Mike Tapp wrote, "The investigation also revealed Cano had an active felony warrant for a kidnapping that occurred on July 17, 2014 in the city of Palm Springs. Cano was subsequently transported to the Riverside County jail in Indio where he was booked for assault with a deadly weapon and for his felony kidnapping warrant. 

Sgt. Tapp went on to write, "The Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force is committed to creating safe and secure neighborhoods free of violent crime and gang activity."
