in Aguanga

Update from Deputy Michael Vasquez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Media Information Bureau:

At approximately 6:20 AM, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Hemet Station, responded to a domestic disturbance call within the 54000 block of Wildwood Drive in the community of Idyllwild. The 911 caller advised that an adult female was in possession of a firearm and was threatening people at the residence. Deputies responded to the location but the female fled the area prior to their arrival. The deputies searched the area, but did not locate her and determined that no victims were injured during the incident.

At approximately 10:00 AM, deputies continued their investigation and it led them to the 44000 block of Jacob Court in the unincorporated community of Aguanga. Upon their arrival, the deputies contacted the female suspect who was still in possession of a handgun. The deputies ordered the suspect to drop the handgun; however, she refused and pointed the handgun at deputies and an officer-involved shooting occurred. The suspect retreated into the residence and refused to exit the home.

The Riverside County Sheriff's SWAT team was called to the scene to assist the deputies. The SWAT team attempted to peacefully resolve the situation by calling the suspect out of the residence. After several attempts to communicate with suspect and no response was made, the SWAT team members entered the residence and found the suspect deceased.

No deputies were injured during the incident. The decedent's name will not be released at this time pending positive identification and notification of next of kin.

The deputy involved in the shooting was placed on administrative leave per Department policy. The involved deputy's name will not be released at this time. Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department Central Homicide Unit responded and assumed the investigation. This is an active and ongoing investigation. Reports are now coming in the officer involved shooting incident in Aguanga has been resolved,

Reports are indicating after deputies from the Riverside COunty Sheriff's Department's Emergency Response Team (SERT/SWAT) made entry into the residence, the discovered the suspect had been found deceased inside the residence, where the nearly telve hour stand-off took place.


Investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Central Homicide Unit will be investigating this incident. No further information about the deputy or deputies involved has been released.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Media Information Bureau has confirmed a woman has barricaded herself in an Aguanga residence after she was involved in an officer-involved shooting.

The shooting incident began as a domestic disturbance in the 54000 block of Wildwood Drive in Idyllwild at approximately 6:20 a.m. In the process of conducting their investigation, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Hemet station obtained information that one of the subjects involved in the domestic disturbance, an unidentified, unknown age female, had left the location.

Further investigation revealed the female was possibly en route to a residence located in the 44000 block of Jacob Court in the unincorporated community of Aguanga. Deputies responded to that location to continue their investigation.

At some point after their arrival, an officer involved shooting occurred at the location, leading the suspect to take up a barricaded position inside the residence. At around 11:00 a.m., deputies called for priority emergency assistance (11-99 Shots Fired).

By 7 p.m., the Sheriff's Emergency Services Team (SERT/SWAT) had brought their Bearcat armored vehicle to the location and crisis negotiators had responded to a nearby command center as well.

This incident is still ongoing and citizens are strongly encouraged to stay away from the area of the incident's occurrence until the suspect has been safely taken into custody.

Deputy Mike Vasquez, of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Media Information Bureau, has now confirmed that no deputies have been injured in a shooting that began as an investigation into a reported domestic disturbance incident in Idyllwild.

“At about 6:20 this morning we received a call for a domestic disturbance within the 54000 block of Wildwood Drive in the city of Idyllwild,” Vasquez said. “We responded to the location and verified that the investigation needed to continue.”

Deputies investigating the original domestic disturbance obtained information which led them to the 44000 block of Jacob Court in the unincorporated community of Aguanga, according to Vasquez.

“We went to contact an involved party for the domestic dispute and upon contacting that party an officer involved shooting occurred,” he said. “At this point we can verify that all deputies are ok and not injured.”

Vasquez said at this time he could not verify the condition of the suspect involved.

“More details are to follow, that is all I can give at this point,” he said.

Deputies and investigators are still on the scene and have requested additional resources to assist with the investigation.

According to members of the Hemet News Team, who are on scene at the location, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Emergency Services Team (SERT/SWAT) are on scene at the location and have a residence at the location surrounded.

Earlier reports had indicated at some point during the shooting incident, the suspect had taken up a barricaded position inside the residence and was refusing to exit or surrender to law enforcement officers.

According to Vasquez the situation is fluid and ongoing at this time and updates are coming in by the minute.

Citizens are urged to stay away from the area due to the ongoing danger and all the police activity in the area.

Aguanga, Calif., A major incident that began as a domestic dispute this morning in the unincorporated community of Aguanga. in Riverside County, led to an officer involved shooting and is still ongoing at this time.

Earliest reports indicate that deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Hemet station responded to the 54000 block of Wildwood Drive in Idyllwild at approximately 6 a.m. this morning regarding the report of a domestic disturbance at a residence. 

While deputies were responding to the Idyllwild location, they received information one of the parties involved in the initially reported incident had left the location. Information led them to the 44000 block of Jacob Court in Aguanga.

According to Michael Vasquez of the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Media Information Bureau, at around 11 a.m. this morning, an officer involved shooting occurred at the Jacob Court location. 

Scattered news reports indicated the person the deputy(s) fired at had possibly taken up a barricaded position inside a residence or other building at that location. Reports also flooded into the Hemet News Room this morning regarding numerous patrol vehicles from multiple agencies rushing southbound from Hemet, San Jacinto and surrounding areas, all heading towards Aguanga. 

Later reports from Hemet News readers indicated they had seen the sheriff's department's BearCat Tactical vehicle with Sheriff's Emergency Services Team members heading south out of town, towards Aguanga.

As of this report, the suspect's condition and details surrounding the circumstances have not been made. It is not yet known at this time how many deputies fired their weapons, or if any deputies were injured in the shooting. 

The Hemet News On-Scene Reporting Team is en-route to the location to bring as much breaking news from the scene as possible.
