Barricaded suspect taken into custody 
by Sheriff's Emergency Service Team in Desert Hot Springs 

Suspect was being sought by the US Marshals Fugitive Task Force
for numerous felony charges

Desert Hot Springs, Calif., On Monday, October 5, 2015, at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers from the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force attempted to apprehend a wanted felon in the 13-100 block of United Road, located in the unincorporated area of Desert Hot Springs. 

The suspect, identified as 37-year-old Jose Castillo, a resident of Indio, was believed to be armed, refused to surrender and barricaded himself inside the residence at the location. Castillo was wanted by the US Marshals for assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, narcotics violations, possession of a stolen vehicle, and evading arrest with a total bail amount totalling 1,000,000 dollars.

At the request of the United States Marshals Fugitive Task Force, deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Emergency Response Team (SERT) responded to the location to assist the US Marshal's with the apprehension of the suspect. 

In a press release fro the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Deputy Armando Muñoz wrote that approximately 12 hours after the incident began, at about 2:00 a.m. the following morning, the suspect attempted to flee from the residence on foot and was subsequently captured by SERT members. Castillo was later released to the custody of US Marshals for booking for his warrants.
