MAN ARRESTED AFTER ASSAULTING BUSINESS OWNER AND HEMET POLICE OFFICER

At approximately 3:30 pm on June 21, 2016; a suspect led Hemet Police Officers on a foot pursuit near Gibbel Park. The individual was running from West Devonshire Ave heading southbound on Brandon Way until he attempted a carjacking at the intersection of Brandon Way and Carl Drive. The carjacking failed, and the suspect attempted to flee by jumping over fences; walls; and hiding in the backyard of a residence on Carl Drive.
Hemet Police Officers and Gang Taskforce members set up a perimeter surrounding the area and forced the suspect out of the backyard, at which point he attempted to flee but the pursuit rapidly ended with the suspect being detained at gunpoint after assaulting an officer who was taking him into custody.
