Investigation Leads to Recovery of Stolen Vehicle and Firearm Los Angeles man Orlando Hernandez and Hemet resident Heber Torres were arrested by the Hemet Police Department this afternoon during a theft investigation. At about 12:44 pm, the City of Hemet Police Department received a report of a theft that had just occurred at a convenience store in the 3000 block of W. Florida Ave.

A witness reported that two Hispanic males stole some liquor from the store and fled the scene in a Green Ford sedan. The witness was able to provide dispatch with a license plate for the Ford which turned out to be a reported stolen vehicle from Los Angeles.

The witness told dispatch that the vehicle was last seen driving east on Florida Ave. As Hemet Police Officers were searching the area for the vehicle, the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department Helicopter advised dispatch that a similar vehicle was parked in the parking lot of a Motel in the 2700 block of W. Florida Ave.



 Hemet Police Officers responded, located the vehicle, and confirmed that it was the suspect vehicle. Further investigation led the officers to a room in the motel where five subjects were contacted. The officers located the stolen bottles of liquor inside the room as well as a loaded handgun and a simulated machine gun.


The officers also learned that one of the subjects had an outstanding felony warrant. Ultimately the two theft suspects (Heber Torres and a juvenile) were identified and arrested and a third subject – Orlando Hernandez was arrested for the outstanding warrant. The stolen vehicle was recovered and the handgun was seized. The stolen liquor was returned to the victim.

Arrested: 



1. Heber Torres, 37 year old Hemet resident. Charged with Possession of a stolen vehicle, felon in possession of a loaded firearm, felon in possession of ammunition, and a PRCS violation. No Bail. 2.





Orlando Hernandez, 30 year old Los Angeles resident. Felony warrant for a PRCS violation. No Bail.


3. A 17 year old male was also detained for the theft however; his identity is being withheld as required by law.
