HEMET – Hemet Police Officers arrested a Hemet resident after he allegedly stabbed a man in the neck Tuesday, August 2. The stabbing happened in the 200 block of W. Kimball Avenue in Hemet.
The Hemet Police Dispatch Communications Center received a 911 call regarding the stabbing at about 9:40 p.m.
Officers arrived at the location within minutes and located an adult male suffering from a single stab wound to the base of his neck.
Officers immediately began administering first aid to the victim until emergency first responders arrived and took over treating the stabbing victim. While officers provided medical aid to the stabbing victim additional officers searched the area for the suspect.
Paramedics treated the victim at the scene before they transported him to a local area hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Officers at the scene of the stabbing interviewed witnesses and documented witness statements. Witnesses at the location said they would be able to identify the suspect. Officers also documented and collected evidence at the scene.
While searching for the suspect, Hemet-San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force members located the suspect in the 300 block of W. Kimball Avenue. When the suspect, who was later identified as Larry Kahea Beckley, 47, of Hemet, saw Gang Task Force members approaching he attempted to force his way into an apartment in an attempt to elude officers.
Despite Beckley’s attempt to get away from pursuing officers, Gang Task Force members took him into custody. Witnesses later positively identified Beckley as the suspect in the stabbing.
Based on the witness statements, officers arrested Beckley for the non-fatal stabbing.
Officers transported Beckley to the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility, where he was booked on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury. Beckley is being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.
The investigation is active and ongoing as Hemet San Jacinto Valley Gang Task Force Detectives work to determine if the incident was gang-related.
Anyone with information about this incident or who witnessed the stabbing is encouraged to contact the Hemet Police Department at (951) 765-2400.
