Christopher Smith, a 23 year old resident of Hemet, was arrested today after he threw a large rock through a window in front of the Police Department.
Today, business was being conducted in the Hemet Police Department Records lobby like it is on most Fridays. Just before 11:00 am, a man who was later identified as Smith, approached the front door of the lobby and threw a large rock through one of the windows, nearly striking a woman who was sitting in a chair patiently waiting for assistance.
After throwing the rock, Smith sauntered away but was stopped and detained by Hemet Police Officers who heard the window shatter. As the officers were detaining Smith he made statements about his dislike of the Hemet Police Department.
The rock that Smith threw weighed more than seven pounds and he threw it with enough force to go through the reinforced glass and across the lobby. Thankfully the woman sitting in front of the window was not struck by the rock however; glass shards fell on her. Medical aid responded to the lobby to ensure that no one was seriously injured by glass fragments.
Smith was arrested and later transported to the Riverside County Jail.
