SUNDAY EVEING SWAT Stand-Off (Update) WITH PRESS RELEASE 2100 block of Silverdrop Lane

SWAT Stand-Off (Update)
On Sunday, September 4th, at about 4:10PM, Hemet Police Officers investigated a residential burglary that occurred earlier that day in the 2100 block of Silverdrop Lane. The investigation led to one of the burglary suspects being identified as Brandon Lawton. Lawton is known by most Hemet Police Officers. Lawton is 20 years old and is a resident of Hemet. Lawton is on Post Release Community Supervision for felony evading and was wanted for violating those probation terms and conditions in addition to the residential burglary. A second suspect was believed to be involved in the burglary, but limited information was known about him.

Hemet Police Officers responded to a residence in the 4200 block of Brookside, which is within close proximity of the Silverdrop residence. It was believed Lawton was at the Brookside location. Upon officers attempting contact, Lawton and another male ran out the back of the Brookside residence; however, ran back inside when confronted by officers. Officers entered the residence to attempt to arrest Lawton. Evidence indicated Lawton and his crime partner were barricaded in the residence’s attic and were possibly armed. Lawton surrendered to law enforcement within a few minutes, but the other male remained barricaded.

The Hemet - Murrieta Regional Special Operations Unit (SWAT) responded and took over the scene. About 5 hours later, the barricaded suspect surrendered to law enforcement after chemical agents were deployed into the attic. The barricaded suspect was identified as Damion Berry. No one was injured during the stand-off.
Brandon Lawton was transported to Riverside County Jail and booked on his Post Release Community Supervision Warrant – no bail. Hemet Police Investigators are still investigating the Silverdrop incident and reviewing evidence located at the Brookside residence. Hemet Police Investigators anticipate filing additional charges on Lawton.
Damion Berry, 21 years of age, is a Los Angeles resident. Berry is not on probation or parole. Berry was arrested on two felony warrants issued by the Los Angeles County Superior Court for robbery and attempted robbery – no bail. Hemet Police Investigators anticipate filing additional charges on Berry.
