It has now been confirmed that all four of the people killed in the vehicle that was broadsided by the out-of-control, silver Toyota Yarus grew up in Hemet and all attended Hemet High School, with three possibly graduating in 2004.
All four of the occupants of the automobile that was struck broadside, including three men and a woman, were killed at the scene of the tragic accident. They have been identified as: Anthony Andrew Flores, a 30-year-old resident of Hemet; Matthew Joseph Pusateri, a 29-year-old resident of Mission Viejo; Jeffrey Albert Willey, a 29-year-old resident of Huntington Beach; and Monica Marie Flores, a 37-year-old resident of Arcadia.
Joel Michael Pineda, 7-years-old, from Van Nuys, who was a passenger in the out-of-control vehicle, was transported to San Antonio Regional Hospital with major, traumatic injuries. Pineda succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead in the emergency room.
Three other people from the out of control vehicle, including the driver, a 16-year-old boy and a 12-year-old girl were all transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center. The full extent of their injuries has not been released.
Follow this link for a Consumer Affairs article that states the vehicle that accelerated out of control is already being investigated for other, similar complaints; some of which have resulted in serious injuries and death. Toyota has already been ordered to pay a $1.2 billion penalty in connection with the acceleration and other cases involving its vehicles.

ONTARIO – Last night, on New Year’s Eve, a traffic collision involving two vehicles was reported to the Ontario Police Department. Five people, including a 7-year-old boy were killed in the accident. Three others were injured and hospitalized.
The collision occurred when one automobile, described as a silver Toyota Yarus was traveling eastbound on the I 10 Freeway. According to the driver of the Toyota, who has only been identified as 51-year-old female, just prior to the accident her vehicle reportedly began to accelerate uncontrollably. Unable to stop or slow the car, she drove onto the Vineyard Avenue off ramp, where her vehicle slammed broadside into a car traveling northbound on Vineyard Ave.

ORIGINAL STORY

ONTARIO, Calif. – A speeding, out-of-control car, led to a fatal two-car crash that left five people dead on New Year’s Eve, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Law enforcement officers received a call just after 7 p.m. regarding the collision that occurred just off the 10 Freeway. The crash happened in the intersection of the eastbound off-ramp of the freeway and Vineyard Avenue.

CHP officials said a silver car was travelling eastbound on the 10 Freeway at a high rate of speed when it’s driver attempted to exit at Vineyard Avenue and smashed broadside into a red car. Officials confirmed five people were killed in the tragic accident. A 7-year-old child was listed among the dead. The names of the victims have been withheld pending notification of the victim’s families.
Three additional victims were transported to Loma Linda University Medical Center, according to authorities.
As of this report it had not been determined if alcohol or drug impairment were contributing factors in this multiple-fatality accident. This investigation is active and ongoing. Check back for updates.
