Negligent Discharge of a Firearm Almost 200 expended shell casings were found near the residence






On January 1, 2016 in the early morning hours, Hemet Sheriff’s deputies went to the 24000 block of Soboba Road, San Jacinto on the Soboba Reservation reference calls of shots being fired. Although no one was injured, a nearby house and vehicle were struck by several stray bullets associated with the negligent shooting. 

Deputies from the Hemet Sheriff’s Station located the residence where the shooting originated. Almost 200 expended shell casings were found near the residence related to the negligent discharge of the firearm. A search of the suspect’s residence resulted in several firearms being collected.

Investigators identified Roy Russel, 33 years of age from the Soboba Reservation, as the primary shooter in the incident. Russell was arrested and booked into the Smith Correctional Facility for the felony charge. This investigation is still ongoing.
