Suspicious Person Disposes of Rifle
On Sunday, November 6th at about 4:00AM, a citizen alerted a Hemet Police Officer of a suspicious person walking near the rear of Target – 3527 W Florida Ave. Officers located the suspicious person who had a large item in his hands. The suspicious person, Clayton Wettigsearls, ran from officers and threw the item into a trashcan during his attempt to flee. Wettigsearls was taken into custody. The item Wettigsearls disposed of was recovered and determined to be a sawed-off .22 caliber rifle wrapped in a sweater.
Clayton Wettigsearls, 33 years of age and a Ventura resident, was arrested for being in possession of a short-barreled rifle, felon in possession of a firearm, and resisting or delaying a police officer. Wettigsearls was transported to Riverside County Jail and held on $10,000 bail.
