An 8-year-old San Jacinto girl was hospitalized with major injuries to her head and right foot after running in front of a school bus that ran her over, say California Highway Patrol officials.
The accident happened at 3:25 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 30, along Las Rosas Road north of Da Vinci Drive in San Jacinto.
"The school bus was carrying 15 students from Park Hill Elementary School," Officer Darren Meyer said in a written statement.
As the bus was traveling north at about 20 mph, the girl stepped from the west sidewalk and ran into the street toward the bus, investigators determined.
"The girl ... was thrown under the left front tire," according to the statement. "The bus driver, Cindi Allen ... of Hemet, was able to quickly stop the bus before the rear tires struck the girl."
The child was taken to Riverside County Regional Medical Center in Moreno Valley.
