Hemet Eye News - Public Safety Notice for Bicyclists

We have been covering stories here in Hemet and the Valley since January 2015 and have had so many reports that we responded to that bicyclists have been hit by vehicles due to riders not having proper lights or reflective clothing.

California State Law requires all bicyclists to have red  light on the back and a white light on the front at night and is also advised to have a reflective clothing to be seen at night such as a vest .

We have seen so many bicyclists at night with dark clothing and no lighting on front or back riding across traffic, against or with traffic at night and so many times were about hit.

We do know pedestrians do have the right away but that's at intersections not in the middle of a busy street and you decide to cut in front of traffic and expect them to slam on their brakes to avoid hitting you ! Especially when you have no lighting and wearing dark clothing where drivers can not see you.

Unless if you have a death wish please make sure you follow the law and have proper lighting and reflective so traffic can see you.
