East Hemet: On Saturday, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Hemet Police Officers initiated a pursuit of a reported stolen pickup truck. The driver failed to yield at a traffic stop and led Officers on a high speed chase throughout the city almost crashing into several vehicles and possibly colliding with at least one.

Multiple witnesses described a large black pickup truck with a lift kit being chased by police, including one witness who stated that the truck almost collided with her near Menlo Ave.

The driver of the truck continued to drive recklessly at high speed throughout the duration of the pursuit until the chase came to an end on Bautista Canyon Road, near Fairview Ave, where the driver crashed into an orange grove.

The suspect foot bailed from the vehicle and ran through the fields of trees. Riverside County Sheriffs helicopter and K9s were tracking the suspect until they lost him near a wash in the Bautista Creek area.

The black Ford F250 was towed after a long recovery from the crash site, where the V8 diesel, high lifted truck plowed through numerous trees before coming to a stop after a wheel detached from the vehicle.
At this time, the suspect remains at large. This is an active investigation and additional information will be released when available.
