On Thursday, October 8, 2015, at approximately 12:00 p.m., the Riverside County Sheriff Central Dispatch received a 911 call from a citizen reporting a possible domestic violence incident occurring inside a parked vehicle on located on Avocado Street east of Perris Blvd. Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Perris Police station immediately responded to the location.

Upon arrival of the first deputy, a male suspect, later identified as Edgar Munoz, 23 of Perris, fled from the vehicle while the female driver and small child remained inside the vehicle. The deputy immediately recognized
Munoz as a parolee at large who had a no-bail felony warrant for his arrest.

Additional deputies responded to the area and provided a secure perimeter around the neighborhood where Munoz was believed to be hiding. The Perris Early Headstart campus, located just outside the police perimeter, placed their campus on lockdown as a precaution.

Because deputies feared they had contained the suspect within the residential neighborhood, they increased their efforts to locate and arrest the suspect, requesting assistance from a sheriff's helicopter, a police patrol K9, and a sheriff's bloodhound tracking team.
Deputy Jeff Hurd with K9 Baron, a Czechoslovakian Shepherd patrol service dog.
In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Sgt. David Douglas wrote, "Bloodhounds have an ability to track human scent and are used for tracking suspects and missing persons. Deputy Ochoa and K9 Windy, a one-year old female bloodhound partnered today with Deputy Hurd and K9 Baron, a Czechoslovakian Shepherd patrol service dog used for apprehending suspects and evidence."

Sgt. Douglas continued, "The two dog teams complemented each other's efforts as K9 Windy located the suspect hiding in the rear yard of a residence within the perimeter. K9 Baron then alerted on the suspect's presence causing the suspect to give up."

Munoz was subsequently booked into the Robert Presley Detention Center on his no-bail arrest warrant. The domestic violence incident involving Munoz is under investigation.

Anyone with information about this case is encouraged to contact Sergeant David Douglas at the Perris Police station at (951) 210-1000. Callers can refer to incident file number PE15281084.
