Early morning incident at Perris apartment complex leaves one dead

On Saturday morning, October 3, 2015, at approximately 12:05 a.m., deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Perris Police station were dispatched to the report a shooting that had just occurred at the Meadow View Apartments, located at 150 E. Nuevo Road in the city of Perris.

Upon arrival, deputies learned a security guard, who is contracted by the Meadow View Apartments, had shot a male subject on the property of the complex. The male subject was treated at the scene by personnel from AMR and the fire department and was subsequently transported to an area hospital where he later succumbed to the injuries he sustained in the shooting.

According to Reiner Communities, the property management company for the apartment complex where the incident occurred, the Meadow View Apartments, known as Meadowview II, caters to low-income residents and participates in the Section 8 housing program.

Despite enormous renovation efforts at the location, including all the kitchens and bathrooms receiving new cabinets, countertops, appliances, plumbing fixtures, flooring and energy efficient lighting; and the buildings themselves receiving new roofs, paint, entry doors, energy efficient windows and patio doors, fencing, heating and air conditioning systems as well as improvements to the site itself, such as new drainage, landscaping and paving; problems at the complex have continued. Even the addition of a new community room, computer learning center and picnic area did little to resolve the issues the complex has been having.

Perris Police detectives and investigators from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department's Central Homicide Unit responded to the complex and assumed the investigation. This investigation is ongoing and the victim's identity was being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

In a press release from the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Sergeant Rob Thompson wrote that anyone with information regarding this incident is encouraged to contact Investigator Mullins of the Central Homicide Unit at (951) 955-2777, or Detective Pico of the Perris Police Department at (951) 210-1000. Callers can refer to incident file number: PE152760002
