27 Yr old ATV rider was killed when his ATV collided with a horse and its rider on Briggs Rd



ROMOLAND / RIVERSIDE COUNTY (LoudLabs News)- Last night around 11:00pm an ATV rider was killed when his ATV collided with a horse and its rider on Briggs Rd. According to California Highway Patrol Officers at the scene, the rider of the ATV was a twenty-seven year old male.
Per Jennifer Fuhrman of Cal Fire/ Riverside County Fire, around 11:00pm Cal Fire/ Riverside County Fire responded to Briggs Rd and Norden Dr. for a motorcycle vs horse traffic collision. The motorcycle rider was pronounced deceased at the scene. Animal Control was called to the scene to assist with the horse that sustained critical injuries. The condition of the rider on the horse wasn't immediately available. The cause of the accident is under investigation. (26 Photos Courtesy LoudLabs News)

Fatal Traffic Collision
RIVERSIDE COUNTY, California- On Monday August 24, 2015, at approximately 10:45 P.M., Mr. Javier Gonzalez (27, Menifee) was riding his horse northbound in an open field, located west of Briggs Road and north of Mapes Road, at approximately 2 MPH. A male (26, Menifee) rider was riding his 2013 Suzuki Quad to the rear of the horse at a speed not yet determined. For reasons still under investigation, the male rider allowed his Quad to collide with the rear of the horse. Both riders were ejected and the horse sustained major injures. The rider of the quad succumbed to his injuries and was declared deceased on scene. Mr. Gonzalez sustained minor injuries.

Due to the severity of injuries to the horse, the owner gave permission to euthanize the horse. Animal control responded to the scene but was unsuccessful in their attempts to euthanize the horse. A CHP Officer, who was on scene, discharged one round from his .40 caliber service weapon and the horse was successfully euthanized at approximately 1:25 A.M. The Riverside CHP Area is conducting the investigation into the collision.
