Commercial Vehicle Checkpoint Slams 48 Citations and 11 Trucks Red Tagged Out Of Service "Not Able To Be Driven Anymore"

Checkpoint Results:

On April 23, 2019, at 7:00 a.m. The Jurupa Valley Police Department Traffic Team and commercial enforcement officers throughout the region conducted a commercial vehicle checkpoint on Etiwanda, south of the San Bernardino County line.   The enforcement team consisted of officers from the California Highway Patrol, Orange County Sheriff’s Office, and the Riverside,  Irvine, Buena Park and  Chino Police Departments.  The results of the checkpoint are as follows:

• 65 commercial vehicles were inspected
• 48 citations issued
• 12 were issued a citation for registration violations
• 1 driver was cited for driving without a license
• 11 vehicles were placed out of service.
  (when placed in out of service the driver is not allowed to drive the vehicle from that location until issue is completed) 
• 5 vehicles were cited for being overweight.
• 4 vehicles were cited for no proof of insurance.
• 14 vehicles were cited for brake problems.
• 22 citations were issued for various mechanical violations

The goals of these operations are to educate commercial vehicle operators, the motor carrier industry, and to promote commercial vehicle safety.

Details:

The California Highway Patrol and the Jurupa Valley Police Department will be conducting a Commercial Vehicle Checkpoint on April 23, 2019, at an undisclosed location within the Jurupa Valley city limits between the hours of 7:00 A.M. and 12:00 P.M.

The objective of this checkpoint is:

• The prevention of collisions and incidents attributed to mechanical defects or excessive driving hours and involving vehicles and drivers subject to California Vehicle Code section 34500.
• The prevention of incidents and catastrophes during, or as a result of, hazardous materials transportation.
• Assist Level One Commercial Vehicle Officer’s/Inspector’s from the California Highway Patrol in this rigorous enforcement program regarding the application of the various commercial vehicle safety regulations in California and those nationally adopted laws and rules applicable to commercial vehicle operation.
• Ensure the safety of the motoring public by assisting Level One Commercial Vehicle Officer’s/Inspector’s from the California Highway Patrol through inspection and regulation of specific loads and commodities, enforcement of commercial hours of service and driving under the influence laws.
• Minimize damage to city roadways by operating fixed and mobile commercial vehicle weight regulation.
• Educating commercial vehicle operators, the motor carrier industry, and the public which will have a positive impact and promote commercial vehicle safety.
