Attempted Murder Suspect Arrested From New Years Early Morning Shooting on Florida Ave.

On Monday, January 1st at about 4:55AM, City of Hemet Police Officers responded to the 600 block of W Florida Ave regarding shots fired with a victim down. The suspect was last seen walking from the area.

Officers located a female victim suffering from gunshot wounds to her torso. Meanwhile, another officer located and attempted contact with the suspect, Kevin Carter. Carter resisted the officer, pulled a firearm and shot at the officer. The suspect fled on foot and was taken into custody during a neighborhood search.

The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is in stable condition. The officer suffered minor injuries during the incident.

There are no additional suspects at large. Kevin Carter, 39 years of age, is a City of Hemet resident. Carter was booked on three counts of attempted murder and is pending transport to Riverside County Jail.
