Convicted Felon Arrested With Firearm
Following a traffic stop, a Hemet man was arrested Thursday night for possession of a loaded, unregistered firearm.
Just before 11:00 pm last night, a Hemet Police Officer stopped a gray Mercedes for a traffic violation in the 300 block of N. State St. The officer contacted the driver of the Mercedes: Mr. David Palmer of Hemet. As the officer was speaking to Palmer, the officer noticed the handle of a handgun sticking out of the space between the driver’s seat and the center counsel. The officer requested emergency backup and Palmer complied with the officer’s commands to keep his hands up until a backup officer arrived. Palmer was detained without incident.
Investigation revealed that the gun was a fully loaded .45 caliber semi-automatic pistol that had not been registered. It was also determined that Palmer is a convicted felon prohibited from possessing a firearm.
Palmer was arrested and later transported to the Riverside County Jail.
