HEMET: UPDATE ARMED SUSPECT SHOT AND KILLED BY HEMET PD OFFICERS – SUSPECT IDENTIFIED

HEMET – Multiple frantic 911 calls regarding a man armed with a gun at a mobile home park led to a fatal officer involved shooting earlier today.
The incident began at about 2:24 a.m., when the Hemet Police Department Communications Center began receiving numerous 911 calls reporting a man with a gun inside the Santa Rosa mobile home park, located in the 1400 block of South State St. in the city of Hemet.
The Santa Rosa is a 367 space mobile home park, that is open to all ages. Although listed on South State St., the main entrance to the park is on South Gilbert St., the next street to the West.
Callers stated that the man, who was described as a Hispanic male adult, wearing a red shirt and shorts, was waiving a gun in the air and yelling in Spanish. Several callers stated they believed the man was possibly a resident of the mobile home park.
Moments later, the Hemet PD Communications Center received another 911 call from a resident who stated a man was trying to force his way into the caller’s residence. The caller told dispatch he had barricaded his family inside the residence.
Based on the significance of the call and multiple reports of the incident occurring, numerous officers rushed to the location. When the officers arrived, they located the suspect, who was later identified as Guadalupe Quiroz, a 34-year-old resident of Hemet, in a car port area of a residence inside the mobile home park. As one or more officers approached Quiroz, he brandished a handgun, pointing it at the officers, at which time an officer involved shooting occurred. The suspect was hit by one or more of the rounds fired by officers. It was not released how many officers fired their weapons during the shooting.
Officers immediately requested emergency first responders to their location to render first aid to the downed suspect. Personnel from the Hemet Fire Department and American Medical Response responded to the location, however the suspect succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
According to the Hemet Police Department, the firearm Quiroz used was recovered at the scene.
