HEMET – A popular Hemet restaurant, El Patron, was destroyed by a blaze that burned out of control after it caught fire Thursday Dec. 22. The restaurant is located in the 41000 block of Highway 74 in the Little Lake community in the unincorporated area of Hemet.
Cal Fire/Riverside County firefighters responded to reports of the early-morning blaze at the restaurant at 1:35 a.m.
25 firefighters from seven engine companies were initially dispatched to the fire, according to Cal Fire Riverside County Fire Public Information Officer April Newman. They were assisted by a Breathing Support Unit and a Medic Squad.
Deputies from the Riverside County Sheriff’s Hemet and San Jacinto Police Stations responded to the location to assist with crowd and traffic control.
The first arriving engine company reported a large, 3,000 square foot commercial restaurant with heavy smoke and fire showing through the roof.
Firefighters immediately began to mount an aggressive attack against the fire. In spite of their efforts and the intermittent rain, the fire continued to grow.
While firefighters battled the blaze, deputies diverted east and west bound traffic away from the scene of the fire, to ensure the safety of emergency first responders at the scene of the fire.
At 2:30 a.m., Newman updated that the restaurant was fully engulfed in flames and was burning out of control.
Two additional engine companies and a truck were were summoned to the scene of the fire as firefighters switched from attack to defensive mode. “Firefighters are battling the fire from the exterior of the building,” Newman explained.
Newman provided another update at 2:55 a.m., stating that firefighters had knocked the blaze down, but not until the restaurant was gutted and destroyed by the fire.
Firefighters were expected to remain on scene for three to four more hours for extensive overhaul and mop up operations.

Idyllwild’s Celebrated Film Festival Enters Its 8th Season The Idyllwild International Festival of Cinema will once again play host to a bevy of great independent movies this January 5th through the 15th, as it marks its 8th year as one of California’s fastest growing film showcase events. With over 130 films on display throughout the 11 day festival, IIFC and the beautiful mountain top village of Idyllwild, just two hours east of Los Angeles, will once again hold court for movie makers from the US and around the world - from as far away as Iran, Kosovo, Hong Kong, India, and the UK, to name but a few - making it a truly international event.
Expanding its schedule for 2017 from six days to eleven, IIFC plans on making the most of its growing status as one of “THE” festivals to hit during the winter film fest season. Some of the highlights for 2017: The Opening Weekend Showcase Event - The Saturday January 7th event begins appropriately at High Noon with the world premiere of a brand new western television pilot, “Tucker’s War”, from writer/director and IIFC founder Stephen Savage.
The screening will be preceded by an in depth on stage discussion and Q&A with Hollywood legend Joan Steiger; actor, author, and widow of the late Academy Award© winning actor Rod Steiger. Joan will speak about her long Hollywood career in television and film, working alongside such legends as Elizabeth Taylor and Mickey Rooney and her relationship with Rod Steiger. In addition, Ms. Steiger will discuss her role in Mr. Savage’s upcoming film “The Wind of Heaven”, a major motion picture scheduled to begin production in the spring of 2017.
Also attending will be two of the film’s stars: Wolfgang Bodison (“A Few Good Men”, “Bones”) and Oscar Torre (“The Hangover III”, CSI, Miami”). A reception with the film's cast and crew will follow the event. Ms. Steiger will also be on hand to sign copies of her new book "Brooklyn Baby", along with the book's cowriter David Minasian, one of The Wind of Heaven's producers. The Official Opening Night Kick Off - Thursday January 5th, will include the controversial new work by international award winning documentarian Cassie Jaye, entitled “The Red Pill”, and a soon to be announced Special Opening Night Feature, selected by festival director Stephen Savage and festival executive producer Trinity Houston. These screenings will be followed by the annual Idyllwild Opening Night Welcoming Party, which has become a much anticipated event for Indie filmmakers in the know.
Closing Weekend Q&A and Awards Ceremony - Saturday January 15th will feature an on stage discussion with Academy Award©, Golden Globe, and BAFTA nominated actress Anne Archer. Festival director Stephen Savage will again host this lively talk with Ms. Archer, regarding her much heralded career, which includes landmark performances in some of Hollywood’s greatest films, such as “Fatal Attraction”, “Clear and Present Danger”, and “Patriot Games”, to name only a few, and her working relationships with people like Michael Douglas, Harrison Ford, Sylvester Stallone, and Tommy Lee Jones. Sunday Afternoon January 15th, marks the 8th Annual IIFC Awards Ceremony, with the presentation of the much coveted Golden Coyote Film Awards. Films To Look For at Idyllwild 2017: Each year, Team IIFC creates a list of the must see shorts, featurettes, animations, web series, documentaries, and feature films highlighting the festival. This coming season, those titles will include: The aforementioned “The Red Pill”, past Cannes Independent winning director Cassy Jaye’s look at the Men’s Movement in America, through the eyes of a young feminist filmmaker.
The documentary has created quite a stir among feminist groups around the world, as Ms. Jaye shines a pragmatic light on just what these men have to say, and why they may not be quite the womanizing cave men they’ve been made out to be. Also on the documentary front, “Hired Gun”, a look at some of the LA Music Scene's top session players and side musicians from the 70s to the present day, and the influence they’ve had on music in general and rock stars in particular, most of them make a living playing, singing, and songwriting in relative obscurity.
Meet the musicians behind some of music's most iconic rockers, such as Alice Cooper, Steve Via, Rob Zombie, Slash, Billy Joel, Pink, Metallica, and more.
