Update 04-14-15:

On Monday, April 13, 2015 about 10:30 p.m., a deputy assigned to the Hemet Sheriff’s Station went to Ramona Expressway and Lincoln Road, in the unincorporated area of Hemet reference a report of an assault with a deadly weapon.  The victim reported being shot at from the occupants of a red Dodge truck traveling on the Ramona Expressway; however, when the deputy arrived, the truck was gone. The victim was not injured during the incident.

About 11:50 p.m., a San Jacinto police officer saw the truck driving towards the Soboba Indian Reservation and initiated a vehicle pursuit.  The truck sped away in attempt to elude the pursuing officer. During the pursuit, occupants of the red Dodge truck shot at the officer’s patrol car through the rear window of the truck.  Neither the officer nor the patrol car was hit in the volley of gunfire; however, the truck was able to evade the pursuing officer by driving into a sandy ravine.Laser Assault Rifle
The occupants abandoned the truck and ran to a nearby residence located in the 43000 block of Castile Canyon Road, on the Soboba Reservation.  Deputies learned that the suspects from the truck were driven away by a resident of a nearby house. Deputies pursued that vehicle for a short distance to the 200 block of Jordan Lane, San Jacinto, where they abandoned that vehicle and fled to a nearby residential neighborhood.
A residential search was performed by the Riverside County Sheriff’s SWAT Team for the suspects who were found hiding and detained a short time later.  One of these subjects was also a person of interest in a previous attempt homicide on a peace officer which occurred on April, 12, 2015, in San Jacinto.  During that incident, suspect(s) from the pursued vehicle fired several rounds from an assault rifle, striking the patrol car.

During this lengthy and urgent investigation, the Riverside Sheriff’s Department deployed massive resources and worked around the clock to quickly get the suspects in this case off the street and in custody before the public or additional law enforcement officers were placed in any further risk. Deputies worked closely and received full cooperation from the Soboba Band of Luiseno Indian Reservation to work towards a peaceful resolution.

This is an active and ongoing investigation and an arrest press release update will be posted concerning the identity and charges of the arrested. Attached are Department pictures of the San Jacinto officer’s police car that was shot at along with pictures of both assault rifles used against the officer and deputy during these two separate violent assaults.
Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to call Investigator Wortman or Investigator Porrazzo at the Hemet Sheriff’s Station (951) 791-3400.

Details:

On April 11, 2015 around 9:15 p.m. a San Jacinto Police officer was alerted by a citizen of a suspect who brandished a firearm at him. The citizen pointed to a vehicle driving by and the officer attempted a vehicle stop of the suspect’s vehicle.

When the vehicle did not stop another officer radioed that the vehicle matched the same description of an earlier carjacking vehicle. The officer initialized a pursuit of the suspect’s vehicle when the suspect fired multiple rounds from a high-powered assault rifle towards the officer’s patrol car. Several rounds pierced the patrol vehicle causing it to become immobilized. The suspect drove away and collided into a house two blocks away on Savory Road, San Jacinto.AK 47

Although the suspect is still outstanding his whereabouts are not immediately known. The San Jacinto officer involved in the incident did not receive any direct injuries from the high-powered rounds impacting his patrol vehicle; however, he was taken to a nearby hospital for precautionary reasons.
